UNDERSTANDING THE ISSUE

Human trafficking is a form of modern-day exploitation involving force, fraud, or coercion. ATL remains committed to working with local and federal partners to help combat this issue.

It affects individuals of all ages, genders, and backgrounds.

Transportation hubs like ATL can be used to move or attempt to conceal victims.

Increased awareness plays a vital role in prevention and intervention.

Recognizing the Signs

At ATL, safety is a shared responsibility. Human Trafficking can occur in plain sight, and awareness is key.

Be alert to individuals who:

  • Appear to be under someone else's control or unable to speak for themselves.

  • Show signs of fear, anxiety, or distress, especially in the presence of another person.

  • Seem uncertain about their travel plans or destination.

  • Exhibit signs of fatigue, neglect, or physical harm.

  • Provide inconsistent or rehearsed responses.

  • Are minors traveling in questionable or unclear circumstances.

If something doesn't feel right, trust your instincts.

How to Report Concerns

If you observe suspicious activity, do not intervene directly. Instead, report it immediately:

  • Dial 911 from anywhere on the premises to reach ATL’s Emergency Command Center for immediate on-site response.

  • ATL Airport Police: Available throughout the Airport for immediate assistance.

  • Call 1-866-ENDHTGA (866-363-4842).

When reporting, share:

• Location

• Description of individuals involved

• Human trafficking behaviors or indicators observed

Your report could help protect someone in danger.

  • Be cautious of unsolicited offers of help, employment, or transportation.

  • Share your travel details with a trusted contact

Myths vs. Reality

  • Reality: Many cases involve manipulation or false promises, not force.

  • Reality: Human trafficking impacts individuals across all backgrounds and communities.

  • Reality: Human trafficking is often subtle and difficult to detect.

  • Reality: Reasonable suspicion is enough. Trained professionals will assess the situation.

At Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, we are committed to creating a safe, informed, and vigilant travel environment for all.
